Colombia. Initiatives such as flexible hours or remote work have been in the mouth of experts in business productivity for several years as alternatives to improve the quality of life of employees while improving their work performance. Little by little this type of initiatives are gaining space in traditional companies, is the case of the mayor's office of the city of Medellín, which plans to establish 5 alternatives of working hours for its workers.
Although the initiative of this Colombian city is motivated by the need to improve the mobility of the city and with the aim of decongesting the roads in the hours of greatest vehicular flow, it will be interesting to know the effects at the corporate level that they will have in the long term.
The proposal for the change of working hours will be applied from next March 16, and will have 5 alternatives. The first will be Monday through Thursday from 6:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 12:45 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and Friday from 6:15 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 12:45 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
The second option includes Monday through Thursday from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:15 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:15 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. While a third option available to employees is Monday through Thursday from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Finally, the last option is from Monday to Thursday from 12:00 m. to 9:00 p.m. and Friday from 1:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Municipal servers also have the option of keeping the current schedule, which is from 7:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
