In order to better analyze the structure of a building and its behavior against seismic risk, software is currently being developed in Spain that will contribute to improving the safety of buildings against earthquakes and earthquakes, even from the construction stage.
According to Carlos Fernández, technical director of Cype to the International News Agency, Efe, this company has been working on this new tool for more than a year.
It is "one more tool that will contribute to improving the safety of the structures of buildings in seismic zones, but it is not the definitive weapon, it is not a panacea," Fernández said in his conversation with Efe.
The ideal is that the tool can be used in countries with higher seismic risk and in all latitudes and it is expected that the development can be presented in society in the second half of 2013.
The software that is being developed makes it possible to consider the effect of facades and partitions in the calculation of the structure of a building, elements that present a high risk of cracking and falling off due to a tremor.
Fernández expressed his concern about the risk that exists in Latin American countries in the issue of natural disasters, and therefore calls for awareness of the importance of building safe structures. "Even though this issue is 20% of the total cost of a building, it should be the most controlled item," he said.
