According to the report The role of Facility Management in the hotel sector, prepared by Claro Sol Facility Services, in conjunction with the Polytechnic University of Madrid and the Hotel Technology Institute (ITH), operating a company with a clear focus on Facility Management, could mean savings of between 15 and 20% in the operation of services for the hotel sector.
The presentation of this study was presented a few days ago in Madrid by the general director of the claro sol group, Javier Díaz Barceló, who said that this type of service achieves savings and improvements in quality, based on greater efficiency in the provision of services.
"These savings can reach 15-20%, even more so in coastal hotels, with more occupancy peaks. On the one hand, the management of people allows to optimize times and vary costs. On the other hand, quality can be improved, reducing the response time to incidents and enriching the sector with professionals in each field," díaz explained.
During the presentation Rodrigo Martínez, from the ITH, indicated that some of the factors of outsourced service to which customers give greater importance are the cleaning and proper maintenance of the equipment. "Ceding responsibility for that maintenance to a specialized company leads to a clear increase in the quality of the hotel," he said.
Finally, Sergio Vega, professor at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, said that "facility management is a new discipline in Spain, although it has been in other countries for 12-15 years. It has many challenges ahead, such as improving the sustainability and energy efficiency conditions of hotels.
For the preparation of this report, those hotels from one to five stars (more than 86% of the offer) with an average profile of 145 to 150 rooms have been selected, based on the 14,600 hotel establishments (including hostels and pensions) that reflect the INE data (July 22, 2011).
