The new Accentac application, developed by the National Center for Accessibility Technologies (Centac) Foundation, was presented to a large audience within the framework of the Fourth Technical Conference on Augmented Reality.
The new solution is based on the augmented reality model and provides information on ramps, elevators, escalators, accesses, emergency exits, adapted bathrooms and everything the property has to facilitate access for people with physical disabilities.
To use this tool, designed specifically for mobile devices, it is enough to point the mobile towards the façade of the building so that the device reveals this information. For now, the application has updated plans of 14 public spaces in Madrid, where you can find the necessary services to facilitate accessibility and mobility in them.
As explained by the general director of Centac, Juan Luis Quincoces, the objective of this tool is to serve as a bridge between physical accessibility and digital accessibility.
This is a proposal that will be extended to 50 public spaces in Spain by the end of this year, but it has become a good base of ideas to consolidate accessibility initiatives in establishments around the world.
The app is free to download and works on iOS and Android operating systems. "Any development scenario for other platforms is likely to occur in the future, but right now we have at least 80% of users covered," Quincoces said.
