According to a study presented by the International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC) of the Foundation for the Study of Asthma and Other Diseases (Fundaler) in the world one in four people has allergic conditions and it is estimated that the number can grow.
There can be many causes of allergies, as well as multiple symptoms and severities. Contact with animals, pollen, certain foods, dust, cold, insect bites, among many other reasons.
Among the most common symptoms are sneezing, rhinitis, redness of the eyes, itching, inflammation in different parts of the body, decay, etc.
Arriving at a hotel that is not prepared for this type of guest can make the passenger's stay uncomfortable or complicate their allergic picture. Therefore, special attention must be paid to elements such as bedding, carpets, flavorings, towels, furniture, cleaning of the room.
As specified by the Fundeler a hypoallergenic room must be simple in its decoration and avoid perfumed environments, "furniture, walls and floors must be easily washable, without upholstery, smooth, avoiding wallpapers and rough paints, and without cracks that facilitate hiding places to the mites", they specify from Fundaler.
Other recommendations offered by the newspaper El Clarín are: "the rooms should be sober, without plants and with few furniture and paintings, since they accumulate dust. Plywood and conglomerate furniture, in turn, can emit formaldehyde, an irritating gas to the airways."
Avoid thick carpets and curtains; the pillow and mattress should be foam rubber with breathable synthetic fabric cover. Bedding in cotton fiber and avoid materials such as wool and feathers. Wash everything regularly at a temperature above 60°C. It is advised that the mattress be shaken, ventilated and vacuumed frequently.
The requirements to be a totally hypoallergenic hotel are many and very strict but it is worth making your guests spend the best possible vacation and open the possibility of them returning.
