In the list of cities that have a higher number of fully protected buildings are two Latin American: Mexico, in the fifth position and Buenos Aires, in the sixth.
This study was carried out by the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Urbanism of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA) in team with the government of Buenos Aires. The research enjoys high scientific value and analyzed 76,000 properties.
It was concluded that in Buenos Aires today there are 70 buildings with comprehensive protection; 804, structural; 5066, precautionary and 7450, special, among others. One presents special protection: the former clandestine detention center known as Garaje Olimpo.
The second phase of this study contemplates analyzing another group of buildings, which would reach 140,000 to, finally, create a definitive catalog of heritage protection.
According to the Minister of Urban Development of Buenos Aires, Daniel Chain, the specialists of the UBA had the collaboration of the government, specifically in what has to do with cadastral data, photos and details of the properties.
It is therefore expected that the second stage of this process will be formalized, which will lead to establishing with scientific bases the quality of the physical infrastructure they have in the South American country.
