The American hotel chain Starwood Hotels & Resorts will manage the Playa Conchal hotel from May 2011, after signing an agreement with Desarrollos Hoteleros Guanacaste, the company that owns the accommodation located in the province of Guanacaste in Costa Rica.Playa Conchal, which is currently in the portfolio of the Spanish hotel company Sol Meliá, will pass into the hands of Starwood under the name The Westin Playa Conchal Resort & Spa, for which a renovation of its 406 rooms and common areas is being prepared to become the first "all-inclusive" complex of the brand.
The commissioning of the Costa Rican hotel represents the return of the U.S. corporation to this country after 20 years. Simon Turner, Starwood's president of Global Development, explained that this is one of four Westin hotels that the chain plans to open in Latin America until the end of next year.
