Two major hotel chains plan to expand in Colombia: InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) and Wyndham Hotel Group have set their sights on the South American country as a protagonist of the growth of their business.
IHG plans to invest close to $100 million by 2014, with three Holiday Inn Express stores opening in Bogota, Cartagena and Barranquilla.
"One of our main objectives is expansion in Latin America, where the economy is growing and we foresee strong demand for hotels with limited services. These three agreements are a testament to the strength and winning formula the brand offers to owners and operators," said Joel Eisemann, IHG's Managing Director of Development for the Americas.
On the other hand, Daniel del Olmo, vice president and general manager for Latin America of the hotel firm Wyndham Hotel Group, recently stated that Colombia is one of the key countries for the growth of the organization.
"We see a sustained development of its Gross Domestic Product which makes it very interesting for us," said the executive.
The multinational has analyzed, initially, its arrival in the cities of Medellín and Barranquilla; two hotels of this group are already being built in Bogotá.
