. Marriot International released its list of projects for 2014 and the balance of its infrastructure investments during 2013. According to the figures revealed by the hotel company, last year the record foreseen by them of conditioning 387 hotels and 67,000 rooms in the year was reached.
In addition, the company opened nearly 26,000 new rooms in 2013, increasing its project list by approximately 30%. At the end of the year, the company had more than 195,000 rooms under development across five continents.
The company also expects to continue having new openings that will accelerate the pace of construction and renovation of projects in 2014 and 2015. In these forecasts, Latin America and the Caribbean occupy a Patagonian role, as Marriott is present in the region with 81 hotels in 25 countries and more than 18,000 rooms under nine accommodation brands.
Marriott also has 30 hotels under construction in the region and by 2017 they expect to double their total number of hotels to ten brands (of Marriott's 18) in 27 countries.
This year, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts will open in Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic) and Cabo San Lucas (Mexico); Marriott Hotels in Georgetown, Guyana; Renaissance Hotels & Resorts in Santiago (Chile); courtyard by Marriott in Hermosillo (Mexico), Recife (Brazil), Trinidad and Tobago, Lima (Peru); of Fairfield Inn in Curitiba and Puerto Alegre (Brazil).
In 2015, JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts will open in Coco Beach (Puerto Rico) and San José (Costa Rica); Marriott Hotels in Cartagena (Colombia), Panama, and Port-au-Prince (Haiti); Residence Inn in Guayaquil (Ecuador); Courtyard by Marriott in San Pedro Sula (Honduras), Santiago (Chile), Curitiba (Brazil), Los Cabos, Chihuahua and Mexico City (all in Mexico), Kingston (Jamaica), Lima (Peru); Fairfield Inn in Queretaro and Mexico City (both in Mexico); and for the first time in the region, the AC Hotels by Marriott brand in Mexico, Panama and Rio de Janeiro (Brazil).
The Marriott Hotels brand will also arrive in Bolivia in 2016 with the opening of a 174-room establishment to be built in Santa Cruz; and Mexico will have a new Courtyard by Marriott in the same year.
