Cristina Gamboa appointed new Vice President of the WorldGBC Board of Directors

Colombia. Cristina Gamboa, Executive Director of the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) since August 2009, was appointed as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC). She is the first Latin American to occupy this managerial level in the global sustainable construction movement.

This new leadership challenge for Gamboa, in the field of promoting environmentally responsible best practices in construction and urban planning, will allow the CCCS to continue contributing to the agenda of its Members and the priorities of governments, national and local. His appointment will be effective from the first of July 2016 for a period of two years representing Colombia. She replaces Lee Siang of Singapore, who becomes President following the retirement of Bruce Kerswill of South Africa.

Ana María Mesa, President of the Board of Directors of the CCCS and Manager of Management, Innovation and Sustainability of Constructora Conconcreto S.A. (Founding Member of the CCCS), commented: "This appointment of Cristina as Vice President of the Board of Directors of the World Green Building Council is a recognition of her outstanding management and leadership in the field of sustainable development. It is also a very relevant gesture of support for the CCCS."

"The immediate challenge is to massify in the industry the skills required in favor of sustainable development to continue reducing the environmental footprint of the sector and ensure that more and more actors in society can enjoy healthier and more efficient spaces," said the Executive Director of the CCCS. Gamboa joined the WorldGBC Board of Directors in July 2013 and has held the positions of Treasurer and Member of the Board of Directors (January 2015-June 2016), Director of the WorldGBC Audit Committee and President of the Americas Network (July 2012-March 2016).

Gamboa is also currently a member of the LEED Steering Committee by appointment of the U.S. Green Building Council board of directors and will chair this committee beginning in December 2016.

"This recognition for the CCCS comes at a crucial time, since the association is launching this year a series of new programs, such as the CASA Colombia Referential," said Cristina Gamboa.

"Likewise, great advances are being made in international commitments and in new public policies, which reaffirm our raison d'être and mark a milestone in recognizing sustainable construction as a meritorious best practice of support from the State," Gamboa added.

As of July 10, 2016, the Guide for saving water and energy in new constructions (Res.549/15) will enter into force and will be mandatory in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Barranquilla, as the first phase of the regulation of the sustainable construction guidelines defined in Decree 1285/15 of the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory.
