Colombia. This 2018, on its anniversary,
AEI hopes to certify LEED the offices of Johnson & Johnson and WPP in Bogotá.
12 years ago, the Architecture and Interiors team first learned about the concepts of LEED certification and green architecture at an event in Toronto. "We arrived in Colombia with the dream of starting to create a sustainable culture in our country," said Marta Gallo Founding Partner of AEI, "we learned that one of the activities that generates the most pollution worldwide is the development of a construction project, not only by the use of materials and the pollution produced by the entire process, but also because of the consequences that expansions on agricultural land or natural green areas can have," he added. It was at that time that the foundations for what is now the Colombian Center for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) began to be created.
Ten years later AEI celebrates being a founding member of the CCCS, leader in the sustainable development of the construction industry "The main achievement has been to raise awareness and generate culture in our country about the importance of being sustainable and the impact that our work has on the environment" said Marta Gallo, "The team of the Colombian Center for Sustainable Construction achieved that the LEED certifications, they will not stay in a trend and turned them into a style of work in the sector," he said.
AEI certified the first LEED project in Colombia: The Alpina plant located in Sopó. And today it has certified 12 more projects including the offices of Coca Cola, Argos, ANH National Hydrocarbons Agency, Bavaria; the Juan Felipe Gómez Escobar Foundation, the Colsubsidio Cube and the 3M Building. This 2018 the firm will certify large interior design projects such as the offices of WPP of 7,000MTS2 and those of Johnson & Johnson of 12,000MTS2 in Bogotá.
By 2028 AEI expects to have 32 projects certified between LEED and WELL, the latter being the evolution of sustainable construction and focused on the well-being of people in the places they inhabit.
