Colombia. Projects that meet sustainable standards in Colombia, that is, that allow savings in water, energy and other resources, already total 6.2 million square meters.
This was announced by the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS), which collected data from the last ten years to evaluate the performance of a bet that was identified as "long-term", while the building firms and their managers understood the importance of the issue.
Today, it is not only part of the strategies of companies in the real estate and construction sectors, but it is also on the agenda of the State.
For Viviana Valdivieso, who assumed the direction of the CCCS at the end of last year, the challenges are increasing, if one takes into account that the official list of the US certificate of leadership in energy and environmental design (Leed), already has registered 366 projects in the country.
Analysts consulted believe that, indeed, it is a gradual process that goes in the right direction and that has great potential, since the area approved for construction – according to the Dane data – continues to increase. In fact, despite some market complications, annually this indicator exceeds 20 million square meters.
For example, between January and October of last year, 18.3 million were licensed for all types of buildings, where the area approved for housing decreased 5.9%, while for non-residential destinations it increased 3.3%. This, by the way, demonstrated something that the CCCS also revealed in its report: "33% of the constructions of the Leed registry are commerce and 49.7%, offices." Even so, we must recognize that little by little housing is contributing.
