Latin America. Cemex announced that it will extend the scope of its Ecoperando sustainability seal to other countries, to distinguish construction projects that demonstrate environmentally friendly characteristics.
This certification accredits projects in their design, construction and operation phases, through rigorous criteria that are above the market standard, in aspects such as water saving, energy and reduction of environmental impact.
In a statement, the multinational mentions that Ecoperando incorporates the efficiency standards required by the American Society of Engineers in Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning (ASHRAE), for the energy-efficient design of the projects.
As well as four requirements to choose from in terms of sustainable design, which can include the reduction of the heat island effect or innovative solutions such as the generation of renewable energies, to name a few.
The certification, said Cemex's Director of Sustainability, Vicente Saisó, seeks leadership in the development of products, services and solutions that contribute to a more sustainable sector, as well as promote social and economic growth.
It is worth mentioning that this initiative began as a pilot test in Mexico and is now ready to be implemented in the countries in which Cemex operates, with minimal local adaptations to make it relevant in those latitudes.
