International. The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) officially announced its 2025–2028 Strategic Plan, a roadmap that seeks to accelerate the transformation of buildings towards healthier, more sustainable and resilient models in the face of the challenges of climate change and the new demands of the built environment.
The updated plan focuses on three key axes: leadership in indoor environmental quality (IEQ), decarbonization and professional growth. Through these foundations, ASHRAE aims to consolidate its role as a technical guide and regulator, with a clear emphasis on creating authentic impact and removing structural barriers to access to technical knowledge at the global level.
"Our 2025–2028 Strategic Plan seeks to promote buildings that truly support human well-being," said Bill McQuade, president of ASHRAE for 2025–2026. "We want to ensure that our actions translate into concrete benefits, such as cleaner air, safer spaces, and communities better prepared for a changing climate."
Key Plan Initiatives
Healthy, sustainable and resilient communities: rapid development of rules, guidelines and best practices to increase indoor air quality and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Empowered workforce: Implementing training and education programmes to reduce the global skills gap.
Organizational agility: Investing in digitalization and collaboration platforms to increase efficiency in operations.
Booming technologies: promotion of artificial intelligence and intelligent systems for construction management.
In addition, the plan recognizes as key enablers the strengthening of a solid base of unbiased research, the strategic use of artificial intelligence and a collaborative and diverse global network.
