Dubaliland to drive growth

The 186 million square metre Dubailand leisure complex will include the world's first sports city built solely for that purpose, which will feature a golf course, a sports academy and a residential community. The project is expected to be completed in 2010. Therefore, it is not surprising that, according to the HotelBenchmark study prepared by Deloitte, Dubai is the main economy in the area in terms of hotel occupancy. The average price per room in the country is around $237, surpassing major cities such as New York, London and Paris.  Other countries such as Qatar and Abu Dhabi are emulating dubai's footsteps and changing their tourism landscape. Abu Dhabi, in the first ten months of 2006, recorded a 47.6% growth in the average price of rooms, reaching 158 dollars. The growth in the sector has caused many of the large hotel chains to decide to invest in the region, which in 2005 had one of the highest hotel occupancy rates in the world. Abu Dhabi has emerged as the strategic point from which to spread across the Middle East and Africa. Many of these chains are projected to increase their number of rooms in the area by more than 200% over the next five years.
