IHG announced plans to open a new 11-story InterContinental Hotels & Resorts property in Maracaibo, Venezuela. Scheduled to open in late 2008, InterContinental Maracaibo will join the Crowne Plaza Maruma Maracaibo Casino & Convention Center as the second IHG-branded property in the city and will also be the fourth InterContinental Hotels & Resorts brand property in the country. "The agreement signed for the new InterContinental Maracaibo demonstrates the fulfillment of our promise to grow our brands throughout the region while reinforcing our commitment to the country of Venezuela," said Alvaro Diago, President of IHG Latin America.
"IHG has had a presence in Venezuela for more than 50 years and we have always believed in its strong hotel and tourism industry, so we are very proud to sign this agreement now to open a new InterContinental property.InterContinental Maracaibo belongs to Promociones Hoteleras S.A., and will be managed by The Hotel Management Group, IHG's operations division, the Americas, under a long-term management contract that will take effect at the end of November 2008.
The InterContinental Maracaibo will be located in front of the beautiful Lake Maracaibo, overlooking the Maracaibo Bridge. The hotel will be ideally located between the city's most modern commercial and residential districts and will be located directly on Avenida El Milagro and adjacent to a casino. Maracaibo is the second largest city in Venezuela and is located at the center of the oil industry, with a population of 2.5 million.
