According to information published by Hotels Magazine, Dubai World sees investment possibilities in Colombia. The announcement was made by the group in recent days by stating that it is exploring several investment possibilities in the Andean country. The group's president, HE Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem met with Colombian President Alvaro Uribe in Bogota during his recent visit to the country and discussed the economic growth ties between Dubai and Colombia. Bin Sulayem reflected on Colombia's natural wealth and the promising opportunities available in the country.President Uribe welcomed Dubai World's interest in the Colombian market and invited Mr. Bin Sulayem to return to tour the key places in Colombian territory.
"We took a close look at the changing landscape of the economy in Colombia," Bin Sulayem said. "President Uribe's response to our exploratory visit was very encouraging. There is a strong will on the part of the Colombian government to reform the economy and attract foreign investors. Dubai World is keen to make use of that positive atmosphere," he added.
Discussions in Bogota between Dubai World and the Colombian government centered around investment opportunities in various economic sectors, including ports, mining, resorts, logistics, power generation and free zone. The utilization of the extensive copper deposits is a possibility the Dubai World is also looking at.
Direct non-oil trade between Dubai and Colombia has been very good over the past three years and shows good potential for future growth.
