César García Matarazzo is remembered by his family, friends, colleagues and collaborators as an exemplary man and citizen who always worked for the Hotel Puerta del Sol, his city, Barranquilla, his country Colombia and those around him. He, a Colombian hotel manager of Italian descent, had great experience in the hotel industry, which he gave to the Hotel Puerta del Sol since 1992, which, thanks to his managerial work, managed to position itself as one of the favorites of both national and international tourists.
He also cared about promoting the city as a tourist destination, especially he wanted to open a restaurant-show that would further boost the Carnival of Barranquilla.
In December 2007, Puerta del Sol was awarded as the first hotel in Colombia with the certification of the Colombian environmental seal and the ISO 14.001/2004 Environmental Certification.
His relatives, friends and family describe him as a great friend and a good boss. For his employees he was a person with more values and virtues than defects, he was kind cordial and not very cranky, some of his employees do not remember him in this facet, but if they remember that he was a leader, full of ideas and innovations.
Such was his spirit of leadership that last year he organized the meeting with his schoolmates, who graduated in 1977, to meet 30 years later and remember old times.
Ernesto McClausan, a renowned Colombian journalist, who was his partner at the Liceo Cervantes in Barranquilla, wrote for the newspaper El Heraldo of this city a heartfelt tribute to César, whom he describes as an exemplary citizen who had no problems with anyone and who was determined that the establishment he managed was a source of pride for the city.
