Ten or more years ago, it would never have been thought of building a removable hotel, much less a prefabricated hotel, but this August the doors of the first removable hotel in the world, the I-Sleep Hotel, of the Best Rest Hotels chain located in La Muela, will be opened to the public. Zaragoza- Spain. The I-Sleep, designed by the architect Luis de Garrido, president of the National Association for Sustainable Housing, is built using container modules 12 meters long, three meters wide and three meters high.
There are also other modules that have the same dimensions, but that will be used as warehouses or stairs, among other typologies of a hotel. The main feature of this type of construction is that this system allows the hotel, being in service, to be expanded or reduced, adding by eliminating some of the desired blocks, also the hotel can move to the most profitable place of the moment, either because it is in high season or because a party is celebrated, a fair or a music or film festival, in such a way as to avoid the low season that hospitality entrepreneurs fear so much.
The new hotel that has been built and designed with the latest advances in sustainable architecture will have 54 rooms and will occupy 1,300 square meters has had an investment of 1,925,000 euros, which will be reflected in its modern design, the modules of 30 square meters of steel and reinforced concrete and in its low cost concept , which is based on customers paying a price of less than 30 euros per room, but this trend does not refer to low-class hotels, but to establishments that provide tourists with all the comforts for short trips or tourism; some of the best hotel chains offer good prices so as not to lose market share.
Therefore, I-Sleep will have the basic services and the income will be made by means of a numerical key which will be provided by a machine located in the main access. According to its creator, this building produces little environmental impact and its energy consumption is expected to be 60% lower than that of a conventional hotel, to achieve this a system has been installed that incorporates solar collectors, heat pumps, underground galleries to cool the air and a bioclimatic design, which allows the heating of the enclosure in winter and its cooling during the summer months as explained by its creators.
This hotel will not only be economical, removable but also ecological and will contribute like many others to the care of the environment. These new trends are added to the concern for environmental and sustainable tourism that has turned hotels into protectors of the environment which minimize the consumption of energy, water and burning of fossil elements, among others.
Around the world there are many hotels that have assumed this trend; Similarly in Latin America, hotel establishments are implementing it as is the case of the Hotel Punta Islita in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, an ecological hotel that seeks the care of more than 300 animal species, in addition to the flora of the place. Also the Hotel Oro Verde in Guayaquil, Ecuador, has adopted efficient practices managing to reduce energy consumption, in addition to complying with a strict recycling plan. Also in March of this year, the construction of a five-star ecological hotel on the island of Gorriti, in the Atlantic Ocean, was announced, which will use energy through solar panels, will have a solid waste recycling system and will be supplied with water with wells on the island itself.
