The Ministry of Tourism of the Nation (Sectur) and the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (Indec) of Argentina, revealed the data released by the Hotel Occupancy Survey (EOH) for the month of March, which seeks to measure the impact of international and local tourism on the hotel and parahotel sector of that country.The figures indicate that 3,311,948 nights totaled the overnight stays of resident and non-resident tourists in hotel and parahotel establishments during the aforementioned month. 75.9% of them were carried out by residents, while 24.1% by non-residents. The decrease compared to the same month in 2008 was 25.5%.
As for the number of travelers staying, a total of 1,442,092 people were registered, being mostly resident tourists (1,088,152 people). With respect to the average stay, in March 2009 it was 2.3 days, for both resident and non-resident tourists.
Region City of Buenos Aires was the one that had the highest concentration of overnight stays in the month with 23.2%, while non-resident tourists registered 55.6%.
