Up to around 3% has lowered the occupancy level in luxury hotels in China, due to influenza A (H1N1) and the economic slowdown that the Asian country is currently experiencing. Layoffs and reductions in salaries were the first measures taken by the most expensive lodging sites due to these events.
In Beijing, 44.5% was the average occupancy of the city's star hotels in the first three months of the year, which means a drop of 10.1% compared to 2008.
Otherwise, there are so-called "economic" hotels, which are increasingly visited by travelers today.
