The Spanish hotel group Sol Meliá published that in 2008 it saved a total of 3,486 tons of CO2, and 794,000 euros (about US$1 million 200 thousand), by improving the management of water, electricity and fuels, as reported by the Europa Press website with data from the 2008 Sustainability Report presented in Madrid, Spain.In relation to 2004, the group reduced by 3.7% in kilograms of CO2 per room in each of its hotels, and also decreased water consumption in square meters by 2%.
The hotel group has 20 places with environmental certificates and expects that before the end of 2009 another eleven hotels will be able to finish the certification that is in process.
