InterContinental Hotels Group, IHG, merged the Latin American and Caribbean regions into a single team under the leadership of Alvaro Diago, who will serve as Chief Operating Officer (COO).Álvaro, along with his Miami-based team, will be responsible for all IHG hotels in the Caribbean: Jamaica, Aruba, Dominican Republic, Puerto Rico, Trinidad and Tobago, as well as establishments in Central and South America.
It should also seek to increase IHG's presence in the Caribbean, with a particular emphasis on resorts, and will continue to foster and oversee the owner companies' relationships with all IHG brands, both managed and franchised.
By the end of 2009, the Caribbean will have 11 new ventures from the group, bringing the number of IHG hotels in this region to 75.
In addition, Carlos Baruki, regional vice president, will lead the region's sales, marketing and revenue management team and the new zone's director of development is Salo Smaletz, who has been instrumental in increasing IHG's presence in Central and South America.
