According to the October report on hotel development in Central and South America, the industry has 139 hotels under construction, for a total of 21,966 rooms, according to the research portal STR Global."While Brazil takes the lead as the country with the most hotel projects in the region, it is Panama City that dominates the plane in the lines of development," explained Elizabeth Randall, director of STR Global.
Among the markets in the region, Panama City reported the most rooms under construction with 2,468. Other markets that recorded a significant number of rooms under construction during October include Buenos Aires, Argentina (560 rooms); Lima, Peru (542); Bogota, Colombia (385), and Sao Paulo, Brazil (364).
