The method established by the Administrative Department of Security (DAS) facilitates access to the information that foreigners provide to hotels, allowing the entity to carry out strict immigration control and more effective monitoring of establishments that do not report it.
With this system, which has already come into operation in some hotels in Bogotá, Cartagena, Medellín and Barranquilla, the DAS will have real-time information on the location of citizens of other nationalities in residences, apartments, houses, farms, aparthotels and pensions throughout the country.
For Felipe Muñoz Gómez, director of the administrative entity, "this measure allows the hotel sector to work together with us to combat crimes such as the abuse of minors, the smuggling of migrants, human trafficking and other crimes of a transnational nature."
So far there are already about 600 domestic hotels linked to a total of 208,000 registered foreign tourists.
