Although the news of the attack on a casino in Monterrey went around the world, the situation of the hotels and convention centers in the city have not been seriously affected; this was confirmed to HOTEL MANAGEMENT by the director of the Monterrey Convention and Visitors Bureau, Juan Carlos Murueta.
The executive said that the situation put at risk a couple of events that would be held in the city, one of them corresponding to the annual sales meeting of Intercontinental Hotels Group, but that the security measures adopted and the support of the local government allowed to ratify the planned contests.
However, the Mexican Association of Hotels and Motels (AMHM), headed by its president Armando de la Cruz Uribe, assured the local press that it is likely that there will be a drop in hotel occupancy of between 10% and 15%.
The truth so far is that the local government has come out to show its face and by putting 3,000 men into service to guarantee security, it seeks to restore confidence to travelers who visit the city.
