On December 15, the Aloft Hotels San José, the first hotel with a Leadership certificate in energy and environmental design (Leed), would enter into operation, which has demanded an investment of approximately US $ 15 million, according to Brian McGuinness, senior vice president of Aloft Hotels Brand.
Speaking to the local newspaper La República, McGuinness explained that this is the second hotel that the Starwood Group opens in that country: "We chose Costa Rica because here is the next generation of executives. Close to us are Intel, Microsoft and Oracle. It was also influenced by the country's high level of education."
The new hotel will also generate 100 new direct jobs and use smartphones as keys to the rooms, in addition to an online reservation system. The rooms are characterized by being spacious, with ceilings three meters high and internet access free of charge throughout the hote.
This project is part of the expansion plan of Aloft and Starwood in Latin America, which also contemplates the opening of new establishments in Colombia and Panama. "The country is new and growing. San Jose is an important business center, more with the expansion of Taca by joining with Avianca. It is also an important vacation destination for the United States and Europe," said Trip Barrett, Starwood's vice president of brand in Latin America.
