A proposal that seeks that the hotel industry in Latin America modify its current system of categorization by stars and carry out its classification based on services is already in the process of analysis.
This classification would be valued by guests based on their hotel experiences and not by international certifying companies.
The recommendation, presented by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), was well received by the Gastronomic Hotel Business Federation of the Argentine Republic (FEGHRA) and the Spanish Confederation of Hotels and Tourist Accommodation (CEHAT), entities that are already carrying out the first tests in order to put the new system into operation.
Within the first quarter of 2012, a new meeting will be held, convened by UNWTO, to analyze the thoughts of each country on the proposal, which was discussed for the first time at the last International Tourism Fair (Fitur) in Madrid, Spain.
