The Novotel hotel, located in the commune of Vitacura in Santiago de Chile, has recently obtained the Earth Check certificate, one of the main recognitions in the environmental area that a hotel establishment can access.
This network of hotels is recognized worldwide for its commitment to caring for the environment, as an example of this 15 years ago the hotel group issued a document entitled Environmental Charter, which includes 65 sections related to environmental issues that still remain in their operations.
According to Novotel's policy, both guests and employees collaborate together to maintain and reduce the consumption of electricity, water and waste management.
Bernd Hofmann, Operations Manager of the group for Latin America explained that for about five years the organization has been committed to the achievement and permanence of this certification, "we have the support of more than 1,200 employees in South America to make this a reality."
The executive indicated that this achievement makes Novotel's commitment to sustainability tangible and brings benefits to guests such as the security of staying in a healthy and quality environment.
This certificate is based on Agenda 21 of the United Nations, which is responsible for evaluating environmental performance and the environmental management system in order to apply a sustainable development policy in each hotel in a network.
To obtain the certification, factors such as water, energy and paper consumption, waste management, use of pesticides of cleaning and hygiene products, among other elements, are studied.
