Planet 21 is the new strategy of environmental conservation and sustainable development that the Accor hotel chain has launched in the more than 4,500 establishments it has around the world.
The plan consists of establishing 21 commitments and objectives to be fulfilled in 2015, where all the actors , both internal and external, that are part of the establishment are involved: employees, managers and customers, so that they meet goals focused on contributing to the care of the planet.
The participation of 90 countries that will work on issues such as health, nature, carbon, innovation, locality, employment and dialogue was concretized.
Among the 21 objectives proposed to be met within three years are ensuring healthy interiors, promoting the responsibility to eat well, preventing diseases , reducing water consumption, encouraging people to recycle, protecting biodiversity, reducing energy consumption and carbon dioxide emissions and increasing the use of renewable energies and promoting sustainable development.
Thomas Simonnet, ceo of Accor in the Dominican Republic, said that although there is no universal solution to preserve resources, this experience has shown that certain practices such as those proposed with Planet 21 can be useful everywhere.
This strategy is related to the so-called Agenda 21 that was proposed by 173 heads of state at the Earth Summit that took place in Rio de Janeiro in 1992.
