The Almirante Cartagena hotel, located in the Caribbean city of Cartagena de Indias, in Colombia, recently received the Business Alliance for Secure Commerce (BASC) certificate, which became the first hotel establishment in the country to receive such accreditation and to operate under BASC security standards.
According to a statement issued by the hotel, this seal was developed in 2009, "using as a pilot the Almirante Cartagena Hotel and in conjunction with the Cartagena Chapter of BASC, adapting the requirements of a Management System in Security Control to the hotel operation, thus linking it to the safe trade practices that are already handled by the companies of the logistics chain".
The BASC certification was developed with the aim of ensuring a safe environment for all audiences of a hotel, both guests and employees. It fulfills the mission of shielding the operation of hotels against the infiltration of money generated from illicit activities and practices associated with armed or terrorist groups.
Spokespersons of the company assured that with this certification the hotel "shows itself to the world as a hotel capable of guaranteeing the provision of reliable services to its visitors, applying the necessary principles for a safe supply chain, minimizing the risks of theft, losses and smuggling of goods."
In the same way, the establishment ensures that obtaining the seal commits them to demonstrate that they are in total capacity to avoid that the materialization of the risks could affect their officials, disturbing their physical integrity while they are in the development of their activities.
