Thanks to the development of strategies such as Gastronomic Routes, there was a significant increase in hotel occupancy in Mexico, as not reported by the Ministry of Tourism of Mexico, Sectur.
These results were evidenced during the 18 days called Gastronomic Routes, held between the months of March and July of this year; a total of 8.8% was the increase, compared to the same period in 2011.
This type of activities have as a fundamental objective to promote and publicize Mexican cuisine, consequently it is expected that the number of visitors arriving in the country will grow substantially to consolidate a strong gastronomic tourism.
As explained by the Secretary of Sectur, Gloria Guevara Manzo, the work that the Gastronomic Routes have done to strengthen the tourist activity of Mexico and contribute to achieving the objectives set out in the National Agreement for Tourism has been vital.
Some of the Mexican regions that hosted this activity were the State of Tamaulipas with the route "From the Sea to the Lagoon", there was an increase of 29.8% in the number of rooms occupied during the aforementioned period compared to the same period in 2011.
For their part, Nayarit and Colima, which received the route called "Los Sabores del Mar", saw an increase of 16.3% in the same area during the same period, while in "Platillos con Historia" (Querétaro and Guanajato), the increase was 15.8%.
The routes "Cortes y Viñedos", "Cocina al son del Mariachi" and "Sazón del Minero" presented increases of 15.6%, 13.2% and 12.3%, respectively.
"The sweet flavors of yesteryear," saw an increase of 11%, while "The Route of the Markets" reported an increase of 10.4%. Other routes such as 'Los Mil Sabores del Mole', 'Los Ingredientes Mestizos del Mayab' and 'Ruta del Cacao', also showed increases of 8.5%, 7.7% and 5.8%, respectively.
