For some days now, a dozen hotels in Montevideo, Uruguay, have been applying a 15% discount measure for Argentine tourists who arrive in this city. The objective is to counteract the imposition of the gaucho government on the recharge on the purchases made by Argentines with their cards abroad.
This initiative is followed at the suggestion of the Chamber of the Tourism Hotel Industry of Uruguay (CIHTU). "The measure began to be applied immediately. Some of them are applying it two hours after the Argentine government made the decision," Remo Monzeglio, president of the CIHTU, told El Observador newspaper.
The measure is not yet applied in the hotels of Punta del Este and Colonia because it was considered that it was too hasty considering that the summer season has not arrived, in addition to this the establishments are waiting for the measures to be announced by the Uruguayan government.
According to Monzeglio, "Montevideo receives at the moment are not Argentine tourists, but executives and people who come to visit companies, so the impact for them was immediate."
Likewise, the official stated that "once we know the measures, we are going to hold an assembly and we are going to advise all hoteliers that in addition to the government's measures, hoteliers also make a small sacrifice by lowering rates and payment facilities especially to those who pay by credit card."
