Given the proliferation of pirate travel agencies in Mexico, the Mexican Association of Travel Agencies (AMAV) has set off all the alarms to prevent this situation in areas where the fact is more evident such as Cancun.
As announced by the president of AMAV, Sergio González, it is expected to achieve the signing of an agreement with the Hotel Association of the Riviera Maya to remove from the market, mainly, these pirate agencies, which operate without a license.
With this alliance it will be sought that it is the hotel sector that transports its tourists, guarantee a quality service, as well as the safety of its travelers.
Likewise, the official stated that some establishments have been detected that have unfairly captured leaks from this illegal business, but clarified that he does not know how many and which companies affiliated to the Association operate irregularly.
Likewise, González pointed out that the Association foresees that this year travel agencies will transport a total of seven million tourists, a figure close to that reached in 2008, even, it is possible that the number is higher. However, the official indicated that it is impossible to determine the impact of unfair competition.
According to AMAV figures, 85% of the seven million tourists arrive at their destinations through the agencies affiliated to the Association, the remaining 15% by non-affiliated companies.
