The most recent report by STR and STR Global for the month of August indicates that the hotel pipeline of the Mexico-Caribbean region is made up of a total of 129 hotels totaling 22,240 rooms.
This report includes the hotels that are under construction, final planning.
As of August of this year, a total of 13 hotels have started their operations providing 1,784 rooms in the region and it is expected that in the remainder of the year another 21 establishments with 4,080 rooms will open.
Of these hotel facilities it is estimated that much of it belongs to the luxury segment, with 1,770 rooms in four hotels, and 1,355 rooms in eight hotels in the upper segment.
According to forecasts, for 2014 it is expected the opening in Mexico-Caribbean of 52 hotels with 8,891 rooms, of these facilities, the independent segment will be the one with more rooms (3,158 in 12 hotels).
The luxury segment is expected to contribute in 2014 about eight hotels with 1,869 rooms, the upper middle segment about 14 hotels with 1,697 rooms and the upper segment about nine hotels, 1,057 rooms.
In the Central and South American region, STR indicates that it will have a pipeline of 248 hotels with a total of 40,263 rooms, as indicated by the August 2013 STR Global Construction Pipeline Report.
Among the hotel segments, the upper middle had the largest portion (9,657 rooms, 24% of the total).
Two other segments accounted for more than 15% of the total: superior (8,750 rooms, 21.7%) and medium (7,575, 18.8%), while luxury represented 6.2% of the total, with 2,511 rooms.
