The National Energy Strategy 2012 - 2030, proposes energy efficiency as its first pillar. The promotion of renewable energies and energy efficiency in production processes is the priority to increase the competitiveness of Chile, a country that faces the challenge of facing a growing energy demand, based on sustainable solutions.
The efficiency challenge is to achieve a 12% decrease in projected final energy demand by 2020. The strategy has included the creation of an Energy Efficiency seal that will become the trademark of companies that efficiently use their energy resources.
The objective of the Energy Efficiency Seal is to identify and reward annually leading companies in the development of energy efficiency at the national level, allowing these initiatives to reduce their energy costs, increase their competitiveness and reduce their emissions.
The Ministry of Energy delivered the Energy Efficiency Seal, during the first week of December to 18 companies from different productive sectors of the country, which have made a special effort to improve energy performance in their processes.
The Seal, which was launched in May of this year, identifies and rewards companies that have an institutional energy efficiency policy, have specialized work teams in the field, have developed performance indicators and have specific efficiency goals. During 2013, a total of 40 companies nationwide obtained this recognition.
