Colombia. Registration is now open for the 2015 version of the diploma course "Sustainability Applied to the Construction Industry", organized by the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) and which will begin on February 2 in both the city of Bogotá and Medellín.
A novelty that brings the structure of the diploma for this year is the possibility for students to choose between two approaches: Design and Construction or Operation and Maintenance. The diploma will include 54 hours of classes oriented to the sustainability module, from 30 to 36 hours for the LEED module, which will vary according to the approach chosen by the student, and from 18 to 24 hours of elective classes.
In statements to BUILDING MANAGEMENT, Miguel Orejuela, director of education of the CCCS, said that "with the creation of the two approaches, we seek to comprehensively cover the life cycle of buildings. In this way, it enables professionals in charge of the operation and maintenance of buildings, who are not directly involved in the design and construction processes, to clearly and objectively understand the direct benefits that sustainability brings in the energy, financial and social performance of projects"
Orejuela added that "this way we contribute to the fact that existing buildings in the country come to operate in the short and medium term with the same efficiency as new buildings that are built with sustainability strategies."
Some of the specific topics included in the curriculum of the diploma are: fundamentals of sustainability, bioclimatic design, location and transport, energy modeling, energy and atmosphere, sustainable materials, materials and resources, quality of the indoor environment, RETILAP, ASHRAE 55, Facility Management and sustainable electrical installations.
