Colombia. For the second time since its publication, the deadline for the entry into force of the regulations that regulate the implementation of Internal Telecommunications Networks for new buildings was postponed. August 2014, first of January 2015 and, now, first of June 2015, have been the dates established by the government for the implementation of this regulation.
On this occasion, the reason for the postponement was a request made by the Ministry of Housing, City and Territory, which claimed to need more time to review the impact of RITEL on the national government's housing construction programs.
Originally published on July 15, 2013 under the name of Technical Regulation for Internal Telecommunications Networks, RITEL, this standard establishes the requirements that must be taken into account when designing and building telecommunications networks (telephony, internet, cable or wireless television, among others) in residential properties.
The main objective is to avoid that technical limitations force the residents of a building to contract their telecommunications services with a provider they do not want.
It is important to note that, although the implementation of the standard will be mandatory for properties that apply for their construction license as of the first of June of this year, it can be implemented voluntarily both for works that begin construction before that date and for buildings already built.
