International. The entire network of offices and buildings in Spain of the BBVA banking group will have renewable energies to meet its demand for electricity consumption. This will be possible thanks to an agreement established between BBVA and the company specialized in wind energy, Iberdrola.
In total, the measure will affect 3,091 branches and 71 buildings that BBVA has in Spain and will avoid the emission of 180,000 tons of CO2 per year. This decision is part of a Global Eco-efficiency Plan launched by the company and with which it is expected to achieve a 6% reduction in CO2 emissions generated by the company between 2013 and 2015.
The plan, established in 2008, also includes efficient management objectives in terms of water, electricity, paper and CO2 consumption and includes building certification initiatives under the ISO 14001 environmental management standard.
Since then, BBVA has managed to reduce water consumption by 30% and paper consumption by 17.3%.
