Colombia. The Connecta building renovated and managed in Bogotá by the firm Terranum, became the first property in South America to receive the BOMA 360 certification granted by the Association of Owners and Managers of Buildings, BOMA. The building was added to another 58 properties that received this designation worldwide in the last quarter of 2014.
The BOMA 360 performance program evaluates commercial properties in six major areas: operation and management; security and risk management; training and education; energy, environment and sustainability; relations with tenants. Since the program's inception, nearly 1,000 designations have been granted, mostly in the United States.
Connecta is a mixed-use property with a total area of 300,000 square meters and an investment of $400 million dollars in its renovation that is also LEED Gold certified in the Core & Shell category.
The property is a building composed of two modules, A and B, whose construction dates back to 1973, but which underwent a complete renovation with sustainable building practices.
The renovation included the conservation of 95% of the original structure but the window system of the façade was changed and the mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems of the installation were renovated. In addition, a green roof and a lighting system of efficient T5 and LED bulbs for fixed and exterior points were included.
Commenting on the inclusion of this Colombian building in the BOMA 360 program, John G. Oliver, President of BOMA, noted that "we are pleased to see that the BOMA 360 designation, which already serves as the standard of excellence in all aspects of commercial construction and management operations in the U.S., is being adopted by the global real estate community."
