International. The Green Building Initiative (GBI) announced that the headquarters building of the American Air Conditioning, Refrigeration and Heating Association (ASHRAE) received 4 Green Globes, the highest possible recognition given by the organization. GBI is a non-profit organization committed to accelerating the adoption of sustainable practices for buildings and in charge of granting the Green Globes certification system.
Among the measures implemented by ASHRAE in its headquarters and that earned it this certification are the constant benchmarking in ENERGY STAR for energy and water consumption; energy audits through the ASHRAE Energy Coefficient (BEQ) system; quarterly inspection and maintenance of systems containing ozone-depleting substances; aqueduct audits to detect leaks and regular monitoring of recycling and waste reduction efforts.
Jerry Yudelson, president of GBI, was in charge of delivering the certificate of the four Green Globes to the president of ASHRAE, Tom Phoenix, a moment that he took advantage of to highlight the work done by the company to improve its environmental performance.
"Only three percent of the projects evaluated by GBI achieve four Green Globes certification, so this recognition is a rare honor and a tribute to the effort made by ASHRAE in the operation of its buildings," Yudelson said.
