Chile. On the occasion of his participation from March 3 to 6 in the Facility Management Week to be held in Chile, Jaime González, founding partner and commercial manager of the company Buyers Facility Management, gave an interview to local media in which he stressed the importance of continuing to cultivate knowledge about this discipline in the region.
In his statements, the official pointed out that, as in other Latin American countries, there is no professional training in the area of Facility Management (FM) in Chile. "In general, Facility Managers look at the experience of other Spanish-speaking countries worldwide, trying to replicate the best practices in the market in terms of service management."
However, when asked about the current situation of FM in Chile, González stressed that "in Chile we have a particularity that is very positive at the time of ending the current situation in terms of Facility Management. The presence of large international service providers allows the implementation of FM models with subcontracts from international suppliers".
And he also added that Chile has seen an evolution in the previous model. Although before the role of the FM was subject to the control of the tasks of the external service provider assuming the responsibility of this only for the fulfillment of its program of tasks, now it is no longer enough with disaggregated service providers, but "it is expected to make long-term strategic alliances, with an integrative vision where the supplier is on par with the sending company, being even part of their business strategy".
Finally, the official concluded that "the current scenario demands greater rigor and professionalism in the activities of FM, participating an FM and not only as responsible for the supervision of suppliers, but an integrated system and participation of the companies. This has meant efficiency in the management of existing resources, in favor of the polyfunctionality of both technicians, assistants and executives of the FM, covering areas such as: use of spaces, energy management, budget administration, project management, among others. "
