Mexico. The cement company Holcim, revealed that it will invest $ 5 million Mexican pesos in reforms to its plants that will allow it to reduce its water expenditure by 14 percent compared to its consumption in 2014. To achieve this, the company began with the installation of water meters in its headquarters in Guerrero, State of Mexico, Coahuila, Sonora, Veracruz and Tabasco.
The investment will also seek to enable the early detection and repair of leaks in its water distribution system. In addition to the above, the seven sites already have treatment plants that meet the particular conditions for their type of industry.
In the statement published by the company, it is specified that the water treated in these plants is used for the irrigation of green areas.
"Holcim has a permanent commitment to sustainable development and the care of water is a central point in this area. We are aware of the value and importance that this resource has for life and the obligation of all to preserve it," said Ibette Sosa, environmental manager of Holcim Mexico.
