Brazil. With the support of Jones Lang Lasalle (JLL), the Brazilian headquarters of the multinational Microsoft launched a project to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in its messaging service. The initiative consists of replacing the vehicles of a large part of the company's couriers with bicycles.
With the above, the company expects to avoid the emission of 208 kilos of CO2 in six months, which contributes to reinforce the image of Microsoft as a sustainable company. But in addition, a reduction in the resources invested will be achieved with an expected annual saving of 11% in the costs of the courier service.
The Carbono Zero project started in September 2014 with the support of JLL. Bruna Lavrini, JLL's facilities coordinator at Microsoft Brazil, explained that messaging is currently divided into two services, one bicycle and one motorcycle, the first is responsible for about 80% of deliveries, using the motorcycle only for the most distant services.
In addition, an added benefit is that bicycle deliveries have proven to be faster.
