Costa Rica. The Sustainable Construction Council of Costa Rica (GBC-CR), in conjunction with the International Finance Corporation (IFC) of the World Bank, announced in the framework of the International Congress of Sustainable Construction 2015 held in San José, the implementation of the EDGE certification (Excellence in Design for Better Efficiency, for its acronym in English) in this Central American country.
The EDGE certification is based on the use of a free to use software developed by IFC that serves as support in the process of designing green buildings by allowing the visualization in the system of technical solutions to meet green construction standards according to the characteristics of each building.
"Buildings account for about 19 percent of greenhouse gas emissions and one-third of all energy worldwide," said Luc Grillet, IFC's Senior Manager for Central America and the Caribbean.
"The most cost-effective way to improve resource efficiency in buildings is to improve their design. That's the inspiration for EDGE. In addition, it complements the Costa Rican government's commitment to green building regulations and will contribute to its goal of carbon neutrality by 2021," the official added.
The first EDGE certification in Costa Rica was granted to Hoteles City Express.
