Panama. The company of liquid and powder coatings Axalta Coating Systems, has just been awarded a four-year contract to provide industrial coatings and paint to the Panama Canal, these coatings will be used in the restoration and maintenance of different buildings of this important latin American engineering work.
Alfredo Villalobos, the company's Industrial Director of Coatings for Latin America, explains that "the canal will now be renewed with some of the most advanced industrial coating products in the world, and will extend the productive life of the Canal Zone as a key asset in international trade."
"The Panama Canal is one of the most important engineering works in history, an iconic engineering achievement," he added.
The company also noted that, different coating products will be used, each formulated to meet the needs of different materials.
The architectural paintings Renzel and Galvox, for example, will be used to bring more life to the interior and exterior of the construction as walls and ornaments. The floors will be protected with the Corlar reference and Imron Industril cladding products.
In addition, the galvanized interior and exterior and other metal surfaces, including the current channel locks, will be coated with Ganici Speedtec and Galvox, which are specially designed to reduce their application time thanks to their ability to be applied directly to the metal.
"This product, applied to surfaces with exposure to water, erosion and strong Panamanian winds, will ensure lasting protection against corrosion and wear material of the structures," said Ruben Gallardo, general manager for Central America at Axalta.
