Peru. More and more nations are joining the effort to regulate the sustainable construction industry and implement regulations that establish concrete and measurable guidelines in this field. The turn is now for Peru, where a few weeks ago the Technical Code of Sustainable Construction was approved through Supreme Decree No. 015-2015 with the signature of the President of the Republic and the Minister of Housing, Construction and Sanitation.
The code was designed and agreed between various public and private entities that are part of the Standing Committee on Sustainable Construction formed by the Ministry of Housing, Construction and Sanitation (Presidency), the Ministry of the Environment (Technical Secretariat) and twelve entities specialized in design and construction issues, as well as the real estate sector.
The implementation of the code will be gradual and it is planned to begin its application in 2016 in the main cities of Peru. This Technical Standard seeks to improve the technical criteria for the design and construction of public and private buildings, so that they are qualified as sustainable. As a first step, sustainability will be reflected in water and energy efficiency measures.
"Water efficiency is a critical issue for Peru, so this code considers it a priority to guarantee the rational use of water for human consumption in buildings as well as the reuse of wastewater. Thus, it is recommended that new buildings be delivered with water-saving technology," says the statement published by the government of this country.
