This event, which took place within the framework of the European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW 2016), served to inform and enable decision-making in industry and innovation on the role that buildings could play in an interactive integration with the energy system, and how users and owners of buildings can be part of this transformation.
As part of a multi-stakeholder approach, a wide range of actors came together to re-examine the role that buildings could play in a new decentralized, renewable, interconnected and variable energy system. Particular attention was paid to the key trends driving change, appropriate innovative solutions and the necessary measures to unlock this transition to smart buildings.
The program included interventions that demand aggregatory responses, innovative policy initiatives, industry, consumer organizations, among others. There was also time to discuss topics such as the role buildings have in the changing energy system, solutions available to unlock the potential of buildings to assume this central role, available levels that could trigger systemic innovation in the field, and how this transformation would impact the building value chain.
