Colombia. The Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction (CCCS) and its network of members organize from Monday, September 26 to Sunday, October 2, 2016, a free series of workshops, technical talks, webinars and guided tours within the framework of The World Sustainable Construction Week (SMCS).
The SMCS is promoted by the World Green Building Council (WorldGBC) and leveraged by its network of 74 sustainable building councils around the world and its more than 27,000 member entities. In this edition, the SMCS will allow us to advance in the recognition of the essential role that buildings play in the development of a sustainable future and exalt the urgency of changing our perspective.
"In this World Sustainable Construction Week we want to highlight especially the importance of the selection of the Council by the Mayor's Office of Bogotá and the World Resources Institute (WRI) to develop with the authorities of the capital the Building Energy Efficiency Accelerator Program (BEA). At SMCS we will have an event on this initiative. We will also offer other events to continue extolling the good moment that the subject is experiencing in our country, product of its coincidence with the recent implementation of mandatory public policies for the sector, such as the entry into force of the Guide for saving water and energy in buildings (Resolution 549/15). We will also widely disseminate the availability of initiatives promoted by the Council that help change business management models in alignment with green growth policies," said Cristina Gamboa, Executive Director of the Colombian Council for Sustainable Construction, CCCS.

At the COP21 talks in Paris, the WorldGBC positioned sustainable construction as the most effective solution to stop global warming below +2°C by 2030, ensure a low-carbon future and improve the quality of life for all. This was achieved through the Better Build Green campaign, which emphasized three aspects: (i) the role of sustainable buildings in reducing emissions and creating economic and social benefits through materials, (ii) Buildings Day at COP21, and (iii) national and global commitments with the active participation of the Sustainable Building Councils of each country.
"From the CCCS we continue to make visible the macro trends of the industry, this time through the SMCS campaign "Change your perspective", which potentiates the process of awareness about the role of the built environment as one of the most efficient and cost-effective actions to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and motivate adaptation and resilience actions in the face of climate change," explained Gamboa.
