On September 13, the European Parliament approved the "European Union Strategy for Heating and Cooling", which urges the European Commission to focus on reducing energy use in buildings, especially in existing ones, for which it is necessary to review the current legislation on energy efficiency issues. EuroACE welcomes the fact that the EU Heat and Cold Strategy supports the energy rehabilitation of existing buildings as a measure to reduce energy consumption in the EU.
EuroACE considers that the energy rehabilitation of buildings is an engine of job growth in the construction sector, especially in the member states, so the industry needs clear indications of being among the priorities of the European Union. In this regard, this body welcomes the fact that MEPs have been strongly in favour of acting on the existing building stock in order to create positive effects on the European economy with the creation of highly qualified local jobs.
The European Parliament has urged the Commission to work side by side with the aim of getting existing buildings to improve their energy efficiency to the point of reaching zero energy consumption by 2050.
EuroACE joins the call of MEPs and calls on the Commission to take a firm stance in the construction and energy rehabilitation sector when it publishes its proposals for the revision of existing energy efficiency legislation to be carried out in the coming weeks.
Both industry and investors are prepared to step up their efforts and offer European citizens energy-efficient solutions in order to improve their comfort and reduce their energy bills. A strong political response is needed to support and accelerate investments in the right direction, concludes the statement issued by EuroACE.
